AwakeTab for Chrome
The web app can hold a wake lock only while its tab is visible. The extension asks Chrome itself to keep the display — or just the computer — awake, so it keeps working when the tab is hidden or the window is minimised.
Free. Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and Opera (version 116 or later).
Using Firefox or Safari?
Firefox and Safari don’t give extensions a power API, so there is no AwakeTab extension for them. The web app keeps the screen awake while its tab is visible.
What it does
- Screen or System: keep the display on, or keep only the computer awake and let the screen dim.
- The same presets as the web app — 15 minutes to 4 hours, until a time, or until you stop.
- The toolbar badge shows ON, SYS or the minutes left, and Alt+Shift+A toggles it from any tab.

Honest limits
- It works only while Chrome is running.
- It can’t stop sleep when you close a laptop lid.
- It doesn’t keep Teams or Slack showing you as available: presence follows your keyboard and mouse, and AwakeTab never fakes input.
Permissions, and why
- power — hold the display or system keep-awake.

- alarms — run timers and schedules while the background worker sleeps.
- notifications (optional) — tell you when a timer ends.
- Site access (optional, one site at a time) — start automatically on sites you pick. No site access by default.
Privacy
Anonymous usage statistics are off by default. The extension never sends URLs, tab titles or site names, and it shows no ads. Privacy policy
